Sustainability levers in the industry
The industry definition gives you an idea of where important sustainability levers lie in the respective industry.
According to expert estimates, in 2050 the climate crisis and growing world population will require three times the amount of water used today. For beverage manufacturers, water bottlers, breweries and winemakers, the valuable resource is not only indispensable as an ingredient, but also in large quantities for process steps such as cooling and cleaning.
Transformation means more economical use, which can be achieved through a holistic view and optimization of resource consumption along the entire value chain. It’s about using less water, more efficient wastewater treatment and the generation of process heat and cold – and smart logistics.
There is hardly any other industry in which the topics of packaging and the circular economy are dealt with more intensively: reusable and disposable solutions, glass, cardboard, aluminum or (recycled) plastic – the industry is exploiting potential for improvement everywhere or developing new business models, such as resource-saving self-filling at home. But things are getting better.
The industry includes the brewing industry, manufacturers of soft drinks and self-bottling drinks and mineral water, spirits distilleries and winemakers.
