Sustainability levers in the industry

The industry definition gives you an idea of where important sustainability levers lie in the respective industry.

They are the epitome of sustainable mobility: cargo bikes make last-mile delivery greener, bicycles made from renewable raw materials become lifestyle products, motorcycle manufacturers are working on climate-friendly drive technology. However, branched supply chains for the many components make transparency difficult and result in long transport routes.

In addition to the production conditions, the key factors for successful transformation are the materials used and innovative eco-design that takes circularity into account. As an impetus for the switch from car to bike, longevity, repairability, sharing concepts and questions about batteries are also important keywords for manufacturers to promote sustainability.

Regionality and fair pay for employees and suppliers play a role for responsible manufacturers. Ultimately, the industry also depends on the municipalities and the bicycle infrastructure they create. Pioneering cities like Copenhagen and Utrecht show how it can be done.

The industry includes, for example, the production of bicycles, scooters, cargo bikes and motorcycles.
