Sustainability levers in the industry

The industry definition gives you an idea of where important sustainability levers lie in the respective industry.

Emissions and environmental legislation for the use of lifting and conveying technology such as work platforms, forklifts, elevators, winches and construction cranes is becoming increasingly strict. In more and more places, working with diesel-powered engines is no longer permitted, not only because of the emissions but also because of the noise.

Manufacturers are driving sustainability forward by relying on electric drives, improving performance, making equipment quieter and, for example, converting crane vehicles to emission-free drives. In the high-rise buildings of megacities in emerging countries, it is particularly the intensively used passenger elevators that drive up energy consumption. If energy efficiency is improved and frictional losses are avoided, this is where important levers lie.

Increasingly automated production and logistics methods depend on intelligent conveyor technology. Innovations also replace highly stressed metal components with more sustainable components that are longer lasting and promote the circular economy. Conveyor belts made from renewable, biodegradable raw materials improve the ecological balance of conveyor systems with identical properties. Finally, more and more manufacturers are investing in energy-efficient processes, the use of renewable energies and the automation of production processes.

The industry includes, for example, the production of lifting equipment and conveyors.
